Humphrey's Blog
One Book, One School is finally ready for the kick off! This year we are reading a book called The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney. This book was on the Bluestem Nominee list this year. It is about a class hamster who views the class and the students from his cage. Every weekend he gets to go home with a different student in the class and helps solve their problems. The teacher doesn't seem to like him, and that's a problem, too! Our kickoff will be on Friday, April 20th with an assembly where we will watch an author video, listen to Humphrey read us the first chapter of his book, and do a hamster dance! PLUS, Humphrey has a blog! Remember to use your best manners when writing on Humphrey's blog. Be polite, be safe, and check your spelling and grammer. And have fun!

Congratulations to 2c for winning the Great Library Campout for 2nd quarter! Make sure you are following PBIS expectations in the library and maybe YOUR class can be outstanding and win for 3rd quarter!
Congratulations to Caroline Bukowski in 4D for being the first Oak Ridge student to read all 20 Bluestem nominees! Remember, you have until April to read 4 of them if you want to be able to vote for your favorite, and you have until May if you want to read all 20 for the pizza party. Plus, we will be doing Battle of the Books starting at the end of April. So KEEP READING! I have been thinking about series books lately. My favorite series when I was a kid was the Babysitter's Club by Ann M. Martin. I also loved Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene and the Hardy Boys by Frank Dixon. Nowadays, I like Percy Jackson. I have heard that the Sisters Grimm is very good. What series do you like?
What are you planning on reading over Winter Break? You have 2 whole weeks at home. Think of all that free time to read your new and favorite books!
My family is going on vacation after Christmas, and I cannot wait to bring my books along and read on vacation. Here is what is on my to-read list : Riding Freedom by Pam Munoz Ryan (this is a Bluestem book!) Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green (he is my favorite author!) Little Bee by Chris Cleave (I borrowed this book from Miss Hassan at school!) That's what is on my list. What is on yours? Have you ever left a comment on my blog? Are you wondering where your comments went? Well, it is a sad story. About a week ago, I was working on updating the website. I was in the section for managing my blog. I wanted to clear out some of the old approved and unapproved comments since the list was getting very long. I didn't know that I was really deleting them from the whole website! Sad, sad, sad! But, as the saying goes, don't cry over spilled milk! We'll just have to keep adding new comments from here on out.
So keep reading, and keep commenting! TumbleBooks are animated talking picture books. The TumbleBook Library is now available for FREE from Green Hills Public Library.
The collection of TumbleBooks includes fiction, non-fiction, foreign language titles, Read-Alongs (chapter books with sentence highlighting and narration but no animation), Ebooks which may be viewed online, and Tumble Puzzles & Games. Find them here: http://www.greenhills.lib.il.us/ It's Packers vs. the Bears in the library. Our bear (and our teachers) get dressed up for the rivalry!
Did you graduate from Oak Ridge? Do you go to Conrady now, but you used to go to Oak Ridge? Did you move away? This is the spot for you! Let me know how you are doing, and how school is going for you. We miss you and would love to hear from you!
The list is up! This is your chance to donate a book in the name of your student. Kids, look at the list with your parents and see which book you might like to donate to our library! Thank you for your patience while I added the list to the website. GO
